Right, updates have been sparse as late, mostly due to the construction of the Iron Warriors force mentioned in the last post (and my laziness). However efforts have paid off and below you can see the current status of the Iron Warriors XI Mechanised Assault Company, as will be fielded to the Tempest Fugitives War in Golconda campaign weekend next week. Its been an fun project and I hope to add to them in future. I would also like to credit the following with being instrumental in completing this task: Army Painter Platemail Spray, Army Painter Dark Quickshade, Star Wars the Complete Saga and obscurely Cooperative 30 packs of tea lights.
The Iron Warriors XI Mechanised Assault Company
The 11th company of the Iron Warriors legion has a long and glorious history stretching back to the founding of the Imperium. A fully mechanised formation they specialise in taking advantage of any weakness in the enemy line or defences, using the speed of their Land Raiders and Rhinos to breakthrough, encircle and destroy those who oppose them. Amongst a legion renowned for technological prowess, the 11th has earned a reputation for specializing in armoured assault vehicles, their close ties to the Mechanicum enabling them to field large numbers of Land Raiders, Vindicators and other more specialised vehicles. The company has been instrumental in the development of the Land Raider beyond the Mk2b, testing out prototypes and suggesting improvements. Since the legion was reunited with it’s Primarch, the company has become increasingly involved in the breaking of sieges, using their Land Raiders to safely close the distance to the enemy defences before assaulting without mercy.
Described below in detail are those members of company that were held in reserve near the Golconda Expanse in the later stages of the great crusade, to counter any possible threat from the Kree Hegemony.
Captain Talbot Tryon - “The Old Man”
Click and drag left or right on the image above to rotate the model.
Amongst the oldest members of the legion, Captain Talbot Tryon has fought with the XI company since the unification wars. The imperial eagle upon his chest is a honour dating from when he served in the newly formed XI formed part of the honour guard at signing of the Covenant of Mars. Known affectionately by his men as the “Old Man”, his great age has not dulled his spirit and since being promoted to Captain he has personally led no less than nine “forlorn hopes”, all of which have breached the enemies defences and earned great honour for himself and his company. Tryon has described the unification of Iron Warriors with their Primarch Perturabo as one of the defining moments of his life, saying it gave him great purpose as if the nature of his existence had been defined. Whatever the future holds for the new Imperium, Captain Talbot Tryon will follow his beloved Primarch to whatever end awaits them.
2nd Assault Squad - Squad Bekir
Squad Bekir has been a stalwart heart of the company for many centuries, noted for their great tenacity in battle. Delivered to the heart of the enemy by their Land Raider Bolas, the squad uses its melta guns to break open any enemy defences and bring the legion’s wrath to those cowering inside. Assault Sergeant Walker wields the great power axe “Breacher”, which was granted to him by the Mechanicum in gratitude for when Squad Bekir’s timely intervention prevented the destruction of the great Warlord Titan Draganus at the hand of Ork gun batteries during the battle of Mil’tyan IV.
3rd Assault Squad - Squad Cemal
Squad Cemal has been recently reformed, following its destruction during heavy loses whilst storming the strongholds of the Denteroc Federation. As a result its members are young and eager to prove their worth to the company and legion as a whole, and the squad can often be seen at the forefront of the companies actions. Indeed Assault Sergeant Penn has boasted that since its formation Squad Cemal has always achieved its objectives ahead of the vaunted Squad Bekir, a claim Sergeant Walker is eager to put to rest.
6th Tactical Squad - Squad Fener
The tactical squads of the XI company are an essential but often derided element of the formation, seen merely as support and lacking the glory of the assault or terminator squads. However Sergeant Corry encourages a stoic attitude to such things, in contrast to other tactical squads who aggressively attempt to shed the reputation, and Squad Fener sees itself as the backbone of the company and often jokes of deploying to “sort out the mess” created by other squads.
10th Terminator Squad - Squad Jale
Squad Jale is one of a number Iron Warrior Terminator Squads who have started to use Perturabo’s new ideas for terminator armaments. These squads favor melta weapons and chain-fists, and the exclusively short range of the configuration has led to the nickname “Siege Berserkers”. Squad Jale is currently under strength following heavy loses when the breached fortress of Archur detonated its armoury, rather than be taken by imperial forces. Candidates are currently being screened from the other squads for the privilege of joining this elite formation.
Tech Adept Watts
Tech Adept Watts technical prowess with Land Raiders and other heavy transports forms the much of the basis for the 11th’s reputation as specialists in this area. However his prickly demeanor and fierce temper are often reason enough for other Techmarines and Mechanicus adepts to avoid seeking his advice. Rumors that his servitor squad were created from junior members of the mechanicum who interrupted him at the wroung time have never been substantiated.

Iron Within, Iron Without
Right, having abandoned my elves (I realised I don't like making large amounts of nearly identical models, which rules out regiments and pretty much Warhammer as a whole), I been mostly working on several new pieces for my Dark Angels, which I will post up at some point. However this post is a about new shiny project: that being a new Hersey-era Iron Warriors army, to take to the Tempus Fugitives' new "Age of the Emperor" event in October. There are several of us working on this project so if all goes to plan we should be able to take a huge themed task force along to the event. Some of my friends previously did this with a White Scars army to the Siege of Terra event last year and you can see the impressive results here:
So without further ado here is the first concept model of what will hopefully be an even mightier force:

Shield Designs
Ok, been working some more on my shield designs, for my shields I wanted something that would be based off the history of Nagarythe and in particular Aenarion the kingdoms founder. The design I've come up with features Aenarion represented by his Dragon Indraugnir rising from the Flames of the shrine of Asuryan, or at least the nearest approximation of that, that I can come up with.
To build the shields I took the serpent icon from the Dark Elf shield sprue (to represent Indraugnir) and attached it to a High Elf shield, then modelled flames coming up from the bottom of the shield in green stuff (for the flames of Asuryan) as shown here:

The next problem was what colour scheme to paint them in, the two options that seem best are shown below, but I'm undecided which one to use, opinions on this, as always, are welcome.

Hers an additional white design that I did at the recommendation of my mate Scott. Ignore the quality of the white if you can, obviously I'd do the actual shields from a white undercoat not black which would allow me to paint much thinner....

The Not-So-High High Elves
Right, on to my new project, this going to be a Pre-Sundering Nagarythe High Elf Army based on the events of the time of legends books Malekith and Shadow King. The army will be based on the force that Malekith leads from the "Old World" colonies after he makes contact with the Dwarves. The army will be most themed around large blocks of infantry, which will use the Seaguard rules to represent the Nagarythe tactic of coordinating archers with spearmen, with supporting Anlec Knights, represented by Dragon Knights, and best of all Malekith on a big white Dragon.
Possible ideas that I might attempt at a later date might be to expand the force to represent the army that Malekith leads retake Anlec from Morathi Cultists or an alternative set of character models to allow the army to represent the army of the Anars from Shadow King.
But that is all speculation, below is the two sample models I've created to test out ideas, they are created from a mix of Dark Elf Infantry legs, torso and head, and High Elf Spearman arms and shields. I've trimmed the shoulder pads down on the Dark Elf torso to avoid looking too "Dark Elfy". The decision to use dark elf heads over high elf ones was a tricky one, as they're a bit to "Spiky" for me, but I wanted something to make the model stand out from a High Elf and decided helms where the best based on this picture in which you can just about see the helms of the troops behind him. In terms of painting I've gone for quite a dark theme overall but used a slightly lighter purple than is traditional for Dark elves, again to avoid that "Dark Elfy" look. Couldn't decide on a shield device so I've left it blank, as soon I work out what log they should have I'll update them.

After many years of doing various GW projects I've decided to keep a Blog to keep track of all the images of new stuff I upload to the web, as my current stuff is rather scattered.
